I bought Lois Lane: Fall Out at Gencon and have been itching to read it ever since. However the ever-growing to-be-read pile demanded that it be pushed back until now. And man, it lasted all of the 24 hours it took me to binge read the whole book. I read the first two chapters at a slow, sedate pace and by the middle of the book I had to know how it ended and threw the rest of the day into reading.
Lois Lane is the motivated, focused character I've always loved and seeing her just sinking her teeth into journalism was everything I wanted. I loved how curious, brave (and reckless), and focused on fixing every wrong she sees. She's exactly the kind of heroine I want to read about! I also loved how clark was inccoperated and the interaction between the two was such fun.
I came to care about every character that appeared and loved seeing everyone interact and grow into a stronger friendship as the novel progressed. Mandy's band t-shirts made me snicker out loud. Each character has a fun, clever element that really brings them to life and makes the story world even stronger as a whole.
The pacing was spot on and got more and more intense as the novel continued. Just when you think the stakes can't go any higher, something else happened to really push Lois into a truly rough patch that leaves you wondering how she's ever going to get out of there without being grounded forever, and with her story in hand. It's a true team effort at the end that really saves the day with Lois leading the charge and I loved seeing the difference between the Warheads Lois is up against and her own team. It really showed the difference between a single unified group taking on a group of individuals working towards the same goal with their own strengths.
Lois Lane is one of my top books of the year. I really loved it and couldn't put it down. If you're a fan of Lois Lane, fast-paced mysteries, and awesome heroines then you cannot miss Lois Lane: Fall Out.
